Traces of time/ 2024
In Traces of Time, the female form becomes a dynamic and evolving landscape, shaped by continual transformation. The project explores memory and material, reinterpreting the symbolism of classical sculpture within a contemporary context.
Historically, sculptures were created to withstand time, preserve ideals, and carry meaning across generations. The female body, often portrayed as a static subject, is embraced here in its opposite nature, as something constantly shifting and accumulating experience. The materials I drew inspiration from carry their own symbolic weight. Bronze, once liquid fire, solidifies into an enduring form. Yet its surface continues to evolve through contact with the world, developing a patina that can never be repeated. This aspect reflects the female form as both resilient and vulnerable, shaped by time rather than resistant to it.
Marble, in contrast, has long represented perfection and permanence, freezing the body in a timeless, almost divine state. In this work, it serves as a balancing and purifying power, dissolving the boundaries between flesh and stone. The figure is no longer an emblem of permanence, but a living imprint of time.
